1. Mix the Master Dough — Combine dry ingredients: In the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk together the bread flour, sugar, yeast, and sea salt. Add liquid: Pour in the warm whole milk. Using the dough hook attachment, mix on low speed for 3 to 4 minutes until a shaggy dough forms and no dry pockets of flour remain. Incorporate butter: Add the softened butter one tablespoon at a time while mixing. Once the butter is absorbed, increase the speed to medium and knead for 6 to 8 minutes. The dough should be smooth, stretchy, and pull completely away from the sides of the bowl.
2. Divide and Color your Canvas — Separate the portions: Divide your master dough into four distinct pieces based on how much color you want in your night sky:
Portion 1 (45% of dough): Deep Night Sky Blue
Portion 2 (30% of dough): Bright Celestial Blue
Portion 3 (20% of dough): Landscape Green
Portion 4 (5% of dough): Bright Highlight Green
Hydrate the powders: In tiny individual bowls, mix each specified superfood powder with 1 to 2 teaspoons of warm water to form a smooth, concentrated paste. This step prevents the powders from clumping in the dough. Knead the colors: Working with one dough portion at a time, press the corresponding color paste into the dough. Knead thoroughly by hand (or back in the mixer) until the color is entirely uniform, vibrant, and streak-free.
3. The First Proof — Rest the dough: Place each colored dough ball into its own lightly oiled bowl. Rise: Cover the bowls with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let them rise in a warm, draft-free spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until each portion has completely doubled in size.
4. Shape the "Starry Night" Swirl — Roll flat: Gently punch down the proofed dough portions. On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll Portions 1, 2, and 3 out into smooth, flat rectangles of relatively equal thickness (about 1/4 inch thick). Layer the colors: Place the Deep Night Sky Blue rectangle down first as your canvas backdrop. Layer the Bright Celestial Blue directly on top. Randomly scatter pieces of the rolled-out Landscape Green and the tiny strips of Bright Highlight Green across the surface to mimic Van Gogh's short, dramatic brushstrokes. Roll and wave: Starting from the short end closest to you, roll the layered dough tightly upward into a compact log. As you roll, give the log a gentle, twisting motion to swirl the interior color boundaries like celestial cosmic waves. Pan it: Place the twisted log seam-side down into a lightly greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
5. Second Proof & Bake — Final rise: Cover the loaf pan loosely and let it proof a second time for 45 to 60 minutes, until the dough fills out the pan and crowns just above the rim. Preheat: While the loaf proofs, preheat your kitchen oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the masterpiece: Bake the loaf for 30 to 35 minutes. Tip: If the top crust begins to brown too quickly around the 20-minute mark, tent it loosely with aluminum foil to protect the beautiful surface colors from dulling. Cool and reveal: Remove from the oven and let the loaf rest in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer it to a wire cooling rack to cool completely. Slice into the bread to reveal your stunning, edible gallery work!
